![]() The only thing worth mentioning here is “Night Mode.” This setting makes my deck have a gray background normally with white text. ![]() This is a long, but I think fairly helpful post. I noticed, about 6 months in that certain settings weren’t working out as well for me, like the “again” setting and max-time interval. My settings are adapted from the AnKing’s, Conaanaa’s, and MedShamin’s guides. Then, play around with them to match your learning style. You should read this post to get a good understanding of what the Anki settings and algorithms mean and “good” settings to start off with. These may not be optimal settings for learning other things such as a new language or for how you learn individually. Pictures of My Recommended Settings For Medical SchoolĪs a disclaimer, these are just the settings I have found to work best for me in medical school. For any more specific usage scenarios it might be best to ask on /r/Anki directly as some of the folks over there have been using Anki for 5-10 years. Those are just the settings that I've found worked best for me over the years. There are a lot of users out there that are far more experienced with using Anki in the long term than me. N.B.: I'm by no means an expert on any of this. Playing around with the interval modifier can also make sense, but is something I'd recommend you only do after you've spent some time with the default settings and gotten a feeling for how easy or difficult your reviews usually are. Increase new interval for lapses to 5-10% Although I do usually recommend customizing the following:Īdjust new cards/day so that you'll see all cards before the exam (and have some time left over for revision) This gives you the ability to add all of these different card properties (and much more!) as columns to your browser and sort by them. I'd also highly recommend that you install the Αdvanced Browser add-on. It does a great job of going through all the various ways in which you can dig through your Anki collection. It can be difficult to remember all of these different properties, so I'd recommend you bookmark the manual section on searching. Will show you all cards with a lower ease than the default (250%). Once again you can use Anki's search feature to isolate these cards. ![]() These cards will have a smaller ease factor associated with them than usual. Some cards you might not fail too often, but still have to mark as hard every time you see them. Lapses are just one part of the equation. Would show you all cards that you've failed more than 3 times. Using the prop: query fragment you can filter by most card properties, including the number of lapses. Here's where Anki's search comes to the rescue. This is quite a lot, and you will probably want to identify these cards before it gets to this point. By default Anki will apply this tag after you've failed (= lapsed) a review 8 times. One way is to look for cards that have been tagged as leeches ( tag:leech).
